Detroit Tigers Starter Max Scherzer

Scherzer will almost definitely have over 200 strikeouts for the third straight season.

Max Schezer most likely set the all-time MLB offseason record last year of having people wondering aloud, “Dude… are YOU INSANE?” What did he do to garner that sort of reaction from people? He told the Detroit Tigers “Thanks, But No Thanks” to their 6-year, $144 million dollar offer. Remember those cartoons where the characters would have their jaws fall slack to the floor? That was the real-life response to his decision.

He was taking a big gamble.. especially since he was coming off a Cy Young season. So far, it looks like it may pay off. Chances are not that high for him to replicate his 21 wins of last season, but he’s probably going to come close to his 240 strikeouts again. Whether that will lead to an even greater payday than what he turned down is not known – though let’s be honest: Whatever contract he signs will mean the difference between six or seven generations of future Scherzers having to work.
