There’s no such thing as a laugher when the Mets play at Citizen’s Bank Park. A 5-0 lead had been reduced to 5-4, and that was only because Curtis Granderson saved the game from being tied with a nifty sliding catch in right field of a Carlos Ruiz bloop to record the first out of the ninth and keep two Phillies on second and third, respectively. When Jenrry Mejia was able to strike out Reid Brignac to end the game, Mets fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Though Travis d’Arnaud went deep, I awarded the Player of the Game to Granderson, since he also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and his pivotal ninth-inning grab. So.. I drew him from a reference picture from a couple of games earlier, since all the pictures of him making the grab were none too flattering.
Also, I must bid farewell to Chris Young, who was designated for assignment. Too bad he was never able to contribute much on the field, though sadly, people will just remember the millions of dollars he made this season. I hear he’s a good guy in the clubhouse, so hopefully he will latch on elsewhere.
