A Deafinitive View On… Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring

The next character in my series on who I think were the most fascinating people on “Breaking Bad”. It’s the mysterious owner of Los Pollos Hermanos, a fast-food chain that also acts as a cover for Fring’s illicit drug activities. Before we go on, I’m going to ask you to stop and consider: Have I watched all the seasons of the show? Will I be crushed if this guy tells me something that happens that I haven’t seen? It’s OK. Just bookmark this page, close the browser and watch the show – it’s on Netflix – and then come back.   Just as a further courtesy I will put several lines of “Spoiler” below:

Ok, All good. So… the drawing I did of Fring is from the scene in the show when a sniper is outside his warehouse shooting at his workers – including a big secondary character, Jesse Pinkman. Pinkman’s hiding behind a big container and Fring, hearing the shooting while in his office, walks outside and brazenly stands in the open, daring the sniper, who has made warning shots around Fring’s feet, to shoot him. The sniper, who is part of a drug cartel, knows that Fring is off limits and finally skulks off.

Fring feels untouchable now… though he’ll learn that it’s bad to have Walter White out for him – as his last moments before being blown to smithereens by a suicidal Tio Salamanca show.

This  face shows the crazy behind Fring’s calm veneer – the same crazy that had him brutally kill his own right-hand man to prove a point to White and Pinkman. Giancarlo Esposito is a fantastic actor and I was actually sorry to see Fring go.
